Will GTA 6 have mods on PS5 and Xbox?
Almost certainly not. GTA V has been on PlayStation and Xbox since 2013 and has never had mods there. Rockstar's games run as locked console versions, and Rockstar has never added a mod store like the one in Bethesda's games.
What console players do get is cheats. Every story-mode GTA has had built-in cheat codes, and you don't need a mod to use them. Until GTA 6 cheats are confirmed, our GTA 6 cheats for PS5 and Xbox pages list the GTA V codes as a preview.
Will GTA 6 have mods on PC?
Very likely, once there is a PC version. Every main GTA since GTA III has been modded on PC soon after its PC release. In June 2017, Rockstar said Take-Two "generally will not take legal action" against PC mods that are single-player, non-commercial and respect other companies' rights. That statement covers its PC games, so it will most likely cover GTA 6 on PC too.
The timing depends on the PC port. GTA V took 19 months to reach PC, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took 12. A GamesBeat report from October 13, 2026 says the GTA 6 PC version is planned for January to March 2027. Rockstar hasn't confirmed it. Our GTA 6 PC guide tracks the date.
Expect the first GTA 6 mods to be small: graphics settings, trainers and simple scripts. Bigger mods, such as new cars or police mods like LSPDFR in GTA V, need modding tools that understand the game's files. Those took months to mature for GTA V.
Rockstar's mod rules (September 2026)
Rockstar published a Mod Guidelines page on its website, reported as dated September 10, 2026. It applies to mods for all Rockstar games and services. It doesn't mention GTA 6 by name, but it will almost certainly apply to GTA 6 too. The main rules:
- No new story content: don't expand or change official storylines, missions or characters.
- No mixing games: don't move maps, characters or assets from one Rockstar game into another.
- No unofficial ports: don't make a Rockstar game run on a console or device it wasn't released on.
- Multiplayer only on Rockstar's platform: multiplayer mods must run on Rockstar's licensed Creator Platform (FiveM and RedM) or another platform Rockstar authorizes.
- No cheat menus online: nothing that interferes with official multiplayer or online services.
- No paid mods outside approved stores: mods stay non-commercial unless sold through a store Rockstar approves. No gambling, loot boxes, crypto or NFTs.
- No reused voice acting: don't reuse Rockstar voice performances or a real person's voice or likeness without permission.
Most of this isn't new. The non-commercial and story-mode limits go back to 2017. What's new in writing is the ban on unofficial ports and on selling mods outside Rockstar's own storefront. Graphics mods, trainers, car mods and other single-player changes on PC aren't banned.
GTA 6 FiveM and roleplay servers
Not announced. Rockstar bought Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, in August 2023. FiveM runs roleplay servers for GTA V, and RedM does the same for Red Dead Redemption 2. On January 12, 2026, Cfx.re opened the Cfx Marketplace, an official store where approved creators sell FiveM and RedM content.
That makes a GTA 6 version of FiveM plausible, but nobody has confirmed it. FiveM is built deep into GTA V's engine, so it can't simply be switched over to GTA 6. Roleplay servers on GTA 6 would also need the PC version first.
GTA 6 mods for GTA 5
Most of what you find when you search "GTA 6 mods" today are GTA 5 mods. The best known is Project Vice by the YouTuber Dark Space, a drivable GTA 5 map built from a fan-made map of Leonida. Others add cars, outfits or characters styled after the GTA 6 trailers.
- They are fan guesses, not Rockstar content. The real GTA 6 map will differ.
- They need GTA 5 on PC. They don't work on PS5 or Xbox.
- Rockstar's rules ban moving maps or assets from one of its games into another. Once GTA 6 is out, a mod that copies its real map into GTA 5 would break that rule.
How to install GTA 6 mods
You can't yet. There is no PC version, so there's nothing to install mods into. When it comes out, expect the same steps as GTA V on PC:
- Back up your game files or keep a clean copy, so you can undo a broken mod.
- Install the base tools first. For GTA V that meant a script loader (Script Hook V) and a file editor (OpenIV) that keeps changes in a separate mods folder.
- Add mods one at a time and start the game after each one.
- Play mods in story mode only. Going online with mods installed can get your account banned.
- After every game update, wait for the tools to update too. Mods often stop working until they do.
Download mods only from large, well-known mod sites with comments and ratings. We'll add the real steps here once GTA 6 is on PC.
GTA 6 mod menus will get you banned
A mod menu is cheat software for GTA Online. It's not the same as a single-player trainer. Rockstar bans players who use mod menus online, and Take-Two has sued people who sold GTA Online mod menus. The new guidelines ban cheat menus that interfere with online play. If you want god mode or a free car in GTA 6, use the built-in cheat codes in story mode.
Avoid fake GTA 6 mod downloads
- No "GTA 6 mod menu", "GTA 6 trainer" or "GTA 6 mods download" can work yet. GTA 6 isn't out, and it won't be on PC at launch.
- Files sold or shared as GTA 6 mods for PS5 or Xbox are scams. Console versions can't load them.
- Fake mod and game downloads are a common way to spread malware. Never run a file that asks you to turn off your antivirus.
We'll update this page when Rockstar announces the PC version or says anything about GTA 6 mods.
